| The Applied Research Center (ARC), formerly known
as the Hemispheric Center for Environmental Technology (HCET),
was
established in 1995
by
Florida
International
University
(FIU) and the Department of Energy’s Office of Science and
Technology. ARC’s objective is to research, develop, and
demonstrate innovative environmental technologies and to establish
alliances between governments, industry, and academia that will
continue to support the commercialization and implementation
of
these technologies.
At the Deactivation and Decommissioning Focus Area (DDFA), EM mission-supportive
goals include developing, demonstrating, and deploying improved
technologies and systems to solve customer-identified needs. The
DDFA promotes sharing of experience, knowledge, information and
lessons learned in decommissioning with cleanup project managers
and other interested stakeholders in the D&D community. This
is accomplished through multiple forums including workshops, publications,
and electronic media.
In 1998, Department of Energy's DDFA designated FIU-ARC as it's
central repository of D&D technology information. Since then,
FIU-ARC's has developed a suite of integrated information systems,
databases and decision-support tools that provide problem holders
with up-to-date, reliable technology information. These systems
enable users to search for available information on technologies
and/or technological solutions to their project-specific problems.
This website was developed as a means to provide access to all
these systems as well as issues, news and sites of interest to the
D&D community. We would appreciate your comments.
